Where We Work

Picture
Scenic vistas and wild open spaces close to where we live; natural landscapes protected forever in our communities; easily accessible hiking, biking, wildlife viewing, and protected habitats full of rare plants and animals.

This extensive landscape is extraordinary not only for its important natural habitats, unusual geological formations, and precious artifacts, but for its proximity to major population centers. These wildlands are within a 30-minute drive for more than three million people living in Southern California. As our nearest natural spaces, our local wildlands grant us easy access to fresh air, beautiful views, and hours of outdoor recreation. But their closeness also makes them vulnerable to the impacts of modern life. Threats to the health of the Landmarks include wildfire, invasive species, habitat degradation, loss of critical species, and excessive human access.  These challenges are all wrapped in the uncertainty of climate change.
