Volunteer Management

Volunteers are essential to our work and in many ways the heart of our organization. They serve as extensions of our staff and serve a vital role in carrying out IRC’s mission of protecting, restoring, and enhancing Southern California’s urban wildlands. They are our most fundamental connection to the community. Without our volunteers, we would lack the essential human resources that we need to effectively steward our region’s natural resources.
IRC’s volunteer management efforts are focused on recruiting, training, and maintaining a constituency of local community members who want to be more deeply involved in our work. We provide exceptional training and opportunities for these individuals to expand their knowledge and skill in a variety of volunteer positions, cultivating their interest into passion for the work that we do.
Our volunteer management efforts have resulted in thousands of people being trained to become experts, leaders, and advocates. Empowered as members of our team, volunteers support our land management work and go on to lead interpretive, educational, and recreational activities for Irvine Ranch’s 30,000+ visitors each year, helping to create lifelong stewards of the land.
