Project Manager, Fire Prevention & Management

About Irvine Ranch Conservancy: For more than 15 years, Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) has been responsible for restoring, protecting, and maintaining more than 30,000 acres of protected natural lands in Southern California, one of the densest urban areas in the country. These lands are teeming with life — diverse plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. They need expert care to protect and restore them so they can continue to provide our communities with all the benefits that only wild, open spaces can. As an innovator in the management of the urban wildlands of Southern California, IRC works in partnership with landowners, agencies, community leaders, academics, and other residents in Orange County and beyond to engage, educate, and foster a shared vision for responsible, long-term care and protection of our natural resources.

About the Position: IRC has an opening for a full-time Fire Prevention and Management Project Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who can initiate project and program development and contribute to outstanding results. The major responsibility will be implementing IRC’s 3-year Regional Forest and Fire Capacity (RFFC) grant, which will include contributing to the development of a suite of fire prevention and fire ecology research projects and coordinating with an existing network of regional partners.

About the Program: Too-frequent catastrophic wildfires threaten the well-being of both wildlands and adjacent human communities in Southern California. The goal of IRC’s Fire Prevention and Management Program is to reduce the frequency and severity of wildfires on urban wildlands, including more than 30,000 acres that we manage on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. We focus on a multi-faceted approach, working with a broad regional network of partners, that is based in science and extensive field experience. Program priorities include coalition building, engaging the community (including Orange County Fire Watch), and developing projects and promoting research that prevent wildfire ignitions and facilitate resilient communities.

The Successful Candidate will have a bachelor’s degree (graduate degree preferred); a minimum of three years of work experience with the following related experience, skills, abilities, and knowledge:
  •  Experience participating in project and work plan development, implementing project tasks with established timelines and deliverables, and managing project budgets.
  • Knowledge of ecological/conservation principles and familiarity with the local environment.
  • Basic understanding of wildfire management and/or fire ecology preferred, not required.
  • Communication proficiency, both verbal and written.
  • Staff supervisory experience. Experience leading volunteers and the public helpful but not required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, particularly working in the SharePoint environment, and project management software.

 Salary Range: $56,844-$73,686 annual

Benefits: IRC offers excellent, industry-leading benefits including paid holidays, vacation, and sick leave; medical, dental, and vision insurance; health savings account (HSA) with employer contribution; life and short- and long-term disability insurance; 401K plan with employer match; flexible spending account and dependent care spending plan (FSA); and long-term care insurance with employer contribution.  For more details, click here.
