Program Coordinator, Plant Materials Development
About Irvine Ranch Conservancy: For more than 15 years, Irvine Ranch Conservancy (IRC) has been responsible for restoring, protecting, and maintaining more than 30,000 acres of protected natural lands in Southern California, one of the densest urban areas in the country. About the Program: Plant materials development is the intentional cultivation of seeds, seedlings, and container plants in support of ecological restoration efforts. IRC’s program uses wild seed collection, in combination with traditional farming and nursery practices, to ensure that each restoration includes a diverse set of plant species that are adapted to local conditions.
About the Position: IRC has an opening for a full-time Program Coordinator on the Plant Materials Development team. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to work outdoors and use a variety of skills. Depending on the season and the needs of the program, the Program Coordinator will assist with the daily operation of IRC’s native seed farm, which could be seeding and planting, weed management, seed harvesting, seed processing, or site maintenance. The Program Coordinator will also collect seeds from the wild, coordinate work crews, and assist with nursery propagation and maintenance. The Program Coordinator will work independently under general direction and as part of a team.
The Successful Candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in environmental science, ecology, restoration ecology, or similar field; a minimum of two years of work experience in a related field; and the following experience, skills, abilities, and knowledge:
Salary Range: $21.67 - $23.88 per hour ($45,070 - $49,669 per year)

- Experience coordinating a variety of project activities and resources in accordance with established timelines and goals.
- Experience collecting, processing, and propagating seed and controlling non-native plants using non-chemical methods.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an outdoor setting at multiple locations.
- Experience in safely using and maintaining hand tools such as hoes, trowels, shovels, and weed whips.
- Demonstrated client/partner focus.
- Helpful, but not required: Experience with irrigation system maintenance.
- Helpful, but not required: Familiarity with the ecology and flora of the local area.
