Early Morning Stroll to the Red Rocks in Blackstar Canyon
A Walk in the Natural Landmarks

Rise and shine! Pour yourself a cup of coffee, wipe the sleep from your eyes and start your morning with the breath-taking beauty of nature. Join us on Friday, March 13 from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Black Star Canyon for a brisk walk in the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. Wake your senses as you inhale the crisp, clean air and watch as the Red Rocks glisten in the morning sun. This hike will be three miles round trip at an easy pace with a medium level of interpretation.

This program is an excellent option for anyone who likes walking on flat, even trails. Participants will be able to see, first hand, the soaring sandstone cliffs that give the Red Rocks their name. Songbirds and raptors of all types are often seen in this area so you may want to bring your binoculars.

Most of this trek will be conducted near the stream bed of the Santiago Creek, which drains from the Santa Ana Mountains and local foothills. Keep your eyes peeled for the tracks of many animals that come down to this stream for a refreshing drink. Wear comfortable clothes and sturdy shoes, and bring water and your camera to capture each glorious moment.
