Not your ordinary hike…
A distance hike in the magnificent Irvine Open Space Preserve
12 mile hike anyone?? If the stress of the recent economy has got you all tied up in knots then skip the boring gym routine! Get outside, inhale the fresh air and take a dose of nature’s natural stress reliever. If you are up for the 12.5 mile adventure in the beautiful Irvine backcountry then this program is for you. Join us on Saturday, February 28 from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. and travel through some of the most remote and majestic areas of the Irvine Open Space Preserve. Venture through lush coastal sage scrub habitat and look for a variety of native wildlife including hawks, deer, coyotes and bobcats as you get your heart pumping and blood flowing. This challenging program has other rewards as well including stunning vistas of most of central Orange County from the ridge-top trails.
This hike is designed for advanced hikers so please be physically fit and have distance hiking experience. Single-track trails, steep climbs and descents will challenge and dare us throughout this adventure. This route consists of more than 2,000 feet of accumulated climbing elevation—think you can handle it? If yes, then make sure to bring plenty of water (70 oz. minimum) and a light trail snack. All children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The program is free, but pre-registration is required so please sign up today at
