Volunteers Needed for the 12th Annual Inner Coastal/Watershed Cleanup Day
2007 stats and how to register for the 2008 event...
Last year's event was a huge success with more than 3,200 volunteers collecting nearly
116,600 pounds of trash and recyclables from all over the region. The Irvine Ranch Conservancy
had 60 volunteers who picked up five dumpsters worth of trash and debris. For a complete
list of 2007 results visit:

Once again, we need your assistance to have another triumphant event. We need volunteers to help
collect trash and debris out of Black Star Canyon on Saturday, September 20th at 9 a.m. So far,
we ONLY have 21 volunteers signed up to participate in this year's clean up. We would really like
to get approximately 100 people. Make it a family affair and help the environment together! In
addition to the easy trash pick up we also need some strong men to help with clearing out lots
of big, heavy itemsare you up for it?? We dare you to come out and do some heavy lifting.
This year there will be two areas to clean up, the Black Star canyon Roadway along the edges of the
pavement and one more heavy duty "dumpsite" upstream. Hard to imagine, but people actually pull
off and dump their stuff into the creekbed, down the cliff and out of sight. Littering has become
endemic and if we don't change our habits or start to remedy the problems we will be in huge trouble.
Now more than ever, the environment needs our attention and TLC. The point of the Inner Coastal
Cleanup is to get the trash and debris cleaned up BEFORE it gets to the ocean through our
watershed pathways. If you enjoy swimming at our local beaches then come out and do your part.
All necessary supplies will be provided, but bring your own gloves and wear clothes and shoes that can get dirty.
