OCFA: Protecting and supporting our communities

The Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA), is among the most important partners in Irvine Ranch Conservancy's efforts to prevent wildfires on the wildlands and parks. OCFA is a regional fire service agency that serves 22 cities in Orange County and all unincorporated areas. OCFA protects over 1,380,000 residents from its 61 fire stations located throughout Orange County. OCFA Reserve Firefighters work at 20 stations.

"Every member of the Orange County Fire Authority contributes to the quality of life within our community. We protect and support the needs of our 'neighbors' and work to make sure that they remain safe during high fire risk conditions," says Division 2 Chief Brian Stephens. "Our partnership with the Irvine Ranch Conservancy is critical to making sure that the threat of wildfire to both human and natural communities is minimized."

OCFA works with the Conservancy as well as the Canyon Watch and Greater Laguna Fire Safe Councils on fire prevention and response. OCFA provides training, support and critical advice and guidance for the implementation of Fire Watch.

"Our partnership with OCFA is critical to our success in managing wildlands," says Michael O'Connell, Executive Director, Irvine Ranch Conservancy. "Too much fire is the greatest threat to these special ecosystems. Since OCFA is the primary agency responsible for managing fire, their work and ours must go hand in hand. We have found everyone in the agency a pleasure to work with and we are poised to do great things together."
