From slow-paced walks to more strenuous cardio hikes, there’s a summertime workout waiting for you on the Landmarks.
Hikes along Hicks Haul Road in Limestone Canyon appeal to a wide range of visitors to the Landmarks. These programs occur in the morning and evening, and allow participants to hike at their own pace along a paved trail. Early risers can take in the fresh summer air during Tuesday Morning Fitness Hikes on Paved Hicks Haul Road. With sweeping views of the Santa Ana Mountains and a chance of wildlife sightings, this scenic hike is an invigorating start to the day that lasts from 7:30-10 a.m., and visitors can choose from a 3-, 6-, or 8-mile route along the paved road.
If you want to take your exercise routine outdoors but aren’t sure you’re ready for fast-paced hikes, consider Slow-Paced Fitness Hikes on Paved Hicks Haul Road on Thursdays from 6-8 p.m. Visitors can walk, jog, or run along a 3.5-mile route that highlights the beautiful sights and aromatic scents of coastal sage scrub habitat. Hikers ages 12 and older accompanied by a parent or adult guardian are welcome to experience this summer-friendly workout.
Exercise enthusiasts seeking a more vigorous workout can register for Extreme Cardio Hike: Shoestring Canyon, Loma Ridge, to the Back Side of Sinks. This strenuous program offers a fast-paced, early morning cardio hike through Limestone Canyon with a 2,000-foot elevation change. Attendees will travel to the backside of The Sinks, and enjoy beautiful vistas of Agua Chinon Canyon and beyond. Experienced hikers will benefit from this challenging workout that offers sprawling views of Orange County.
The fresh air and expansive views on the Landmarks are a refreshing option for exercise. When preparing for any hike or other form of outdoor exercise, be sure to wear appropriate clothing, apply sunscreen, and bring plenty of water – especially as summer temperatures continue to heat up.
