Saturday, June 21, is the official start of summer – begin the countdown until your kids utter the dreaded phrase: “I’m bored.”
Be prepared with a list of family-friendly outdoor summer activities in the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. From the mountains to the sea, opportunities abound for both daily-access trails and docent-led programs. The variety of activity will help avoid another summer of watching television, and better still, offers outdoor experiences that create lasting family memories.
For busy families who find it hard to fit one more activity on the schedule, many wilderness and open space parks are open daily for self-guided access. Crystal Cove State Park has many diverse trails leading to a beach with an “underwater park.” In Irvine, Quail Hill offers an easy loop trail with the option of a cell phone audio tour, and Bommer Canyon features a variety of trails with amazing views. OC Parks offers many wilderness parks with trails open daily and Buck Gully Nature Reserve in Newport Beach is a perfect balance to a day at the beach.
A full listing of activities is available at www.LetsGoOutside.org/Activities. Age limits vary for each activity – simply click on the activity title to see age requirements as well as other details.
