Take advantage of daylight savings time and spend evenings on the Landmarks

Spring has arrived and with it comes daylight savings time! With clocks turning forward an hour, nature lovers can enjoy longer days and warmer weather outdoors. Outdoor enthusiasts can take advantage of extended daylight hours by exploring a calendar full of evening programs on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks. Hikers of all ages can take a break from long days spent indoors as they get outside, enjoy fresh air, and discover native species on the local lands.

After a lengthy day of running errands, working, and taking care of loved ones, escape the daily grind by spending time outdoors. Those with a busy schedule can de-stress and re-energize during the Orchard Hills Evening Hike on Tuesday, March 27 from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. During this hike in the City of Irvine’s Orchard Hills, visitors to the lands can enjoy an evening on the Orchard Hills loop trail as it meanders around an avocado orchard. Hikers can also look forward to traveling 3 miles and witnessing an unobstructed view of the west as the sun sets.

Fitness enthusiasts looking to get their workout done in the evening hours can join the Advanced Cardio Hike: Limestone Canyon & Limestone Ridge on Thursday, March 29 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. Experienced hikers can hike 5.5 miles and enjoy the challenge of several steep climbs and descents during this strenuous and fast-paced hike. Physically fit hikers will be able to experience panoramic views of Orange County and spot wildlife as they emerge at dusk.

On Tuesday, April 3 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. nature lovers can spend their evening in the City of Irvine’s Bommer Canyon during the Fitness Hike in Bommer Canyon. The beautiful oak tree-lined trail leads hikers on their 3 mile journey through the canyon. On Tuesday, April 17 from 6 – 8 p.m. hikers can challenge themselves with a total body cardio workout during the Bommer Canyon Train and Hike program. Visitors can enjoy the sights and sounds of Bommer Canyon at sunset as they participate in instructor led training exercises using a combination of body weight and resistance bands before hitting the trail for a 3-mile fast-passed excursion.

Enjoy the great outdoors during an evening program on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks! Remember to wear sunscreen (even in the late afternoon and early evening), and don’t forget to pack water, a snack, and wear layers and appropriate shoes. Most activities are free with required pre-registration, which closes at 4 p.m. the day prior to each event. Some programs are suitable for children 12 and over, and children must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.
