Staff Accountant
CORE FUNCTIONS:
The Staff Accountant for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy is responsible for assisting in the overall fiscal control of the organization, including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, auditing, receipts, disbursements, and contract billing. The position also provides guidance to other departments and employees by researching and interpreting accounting policy and making recommendations on operational issues and processes and procedures related to accounting.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
- Requires a bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting plus 3 or more years of related work experience.
- Familiar with a wide variety of accounting principles, including GAAP and fund accounting practices and regulations.
- Demonstrated strong experience with MS Excel and Word. Ability to manage databases and produce reports.
- Strong organizational skills and exceptional accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.

- Coordinate multiple projects with several variables, set realistic deadlines, and manage a timeline.
- Ability to independently manage and execute a wide variety of accounting and finance tasks with outstanding quality and results.

- Consult with supervisor to develop plans for resolution of unusual or complex problems.

- Consult with supervisor to address any issues that affect the work of others or the organization as a whole.
- Familiarity with standard business communications; ability to draft and edit correspondence and other written materials to internal and external audiences.
- Act in supervisor’s stead when directed to manage workflow within the department.
RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT –FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY:
- General ledger data entry.
- Recurring month end journal entries, including, but not limited to, overhead allocation, employee benefits, pre-paid expense entries, and bank and petty cash reconciliation.
- Prepare monthly fixed asset journal entries and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Review and prepare monthly accounts receivable and deferred account report.
- Land management and mitigation contract billings; including identifying and assuring that all required documentation is available for costs eligible for service fee.
- Monitor individual program budgets to assure compliance with approved program budget.
- Assist with the preparation of lead schedules in preparation for audit by any governmental agency.
- Adhere to standard practice internal control procedures for all aspects of accounting.
- Work with supervisor to prepare quarterly and ad hoc reports and analysis to management, partner organizations, and other audiences.
- All other duties as assigned by the Director of Finance & Accounting.

- Work requires minimal physical exertion. Work environment rarely involves exposure to disagreeable elements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment and manage/meet deadlines.
- Flexibility to work long hours during deadline periods.
