Resource Management Coordinator

JOB TITLE:               RESOURCE MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR
FLSA STATUS:          Non-Exempt, Hourly
REPORTS TO:           Science & Stewardship Project Manager

CORE FUNCTIONS
The Resource Management Coordinator for the Irvine Ranch Conservancy is responsible for implementing a variety of field-oriented tasks related to the Conservancy’s management of open space. The Resource Management Coordinator independently carries out field tasks, including: reconnaissance and digital mapping, early detection/rapid response, contractor coordination and scheduling, field crew oversight, spot-spraying and manual control of weeds, and may assist with restoration planting, maintenance and monitoring and native seed farm maintenance, harvest and processing. This position is expected to interact regularly and professionally with fellow staff and partner organizations, including land owners, contractors, volunteers, and the community.
 
 KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
  • Bachelor’s degree ecology, plant science, horticulture, natural resource management or related field and 2 years work experience in land management.  
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office.
  • Successful experience in implementing field work in areas with sensitive natural resources.
  • Field monitoring experience and familiarity with GPS preferred.
  • Familiarity with the flora and plant communities of the region preferred.
  • Experience with safe use and maintenance of a variety of field tools, equipment, and backpack sprayers.
  • Comfortable driving on dirt roads requiring 4-wheel drive and attaching and hauling equipment trailers.
  • Experience performing strenuous labor with a high level of physical endurance. Ability to perform tasks quickly, efficiently and resourcefully.
  • Experience maintaining detailed and accurate records.
  • Experience or willingness to be trained in herbicide application, first aid, CPR.
  • Computer familiarity, including database knowledge, in order to maintain project records and reports.
 
DECISION-MAKING/PROBLEM SOLVING: 
  • Coordinates multiple diverse projects with several variables, sets realistic deadlines, and manages a timeline with high quality results.
  • Ability to recommend and carry out scientifically-sound decisions relative to species and habitat conservation in consultation with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Ability to organize and use scientific information in decision-making in consultation with colleagues.
 
COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL:
  • Strong communication skills, particularly under field situations and conditions.
  • Experience preparing clear, accurate reports and documents.
  • Experience leading volunteer groups or field crew and delegating tasks.
  • Consistently demonstrates professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion. 
  • Duties may be confidential and require discretion, judgment, tact and poise.
  • Must have a positive attitude and be highly motivated and responsible.
 
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
  • Work requires fieldwork with strenuous physical exertion and/or strain. 
  • Work environment involves exposure to disagreeable elements.
  • Work is in variable and steep terrain.
  • Work requires strenuous walking, kneeling, standing and manual labor for most of the day.
  • Work requires regular lifting of objects between 10 and 50 pounds.
