Program Technician II Seasonal - Plant Material Development

THE PROGRAM AREA
Plant Material Development is the intentional cultivation of seeds, seedlings, and container plants in support of ecological restoration efforts. IRC’s program uses wild seed collection, combined with traditional farming and nursery practices, to ensure that each restoration includes a diverse set of plant species that are adapted to local conditions.
THE POSITION
The Program Technician/Specialist contributes to the delivery of projects and activities within the Plant Material Development program and is responsible for implementing project activities to deliver outstanding results on IRC’s project and commitments.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs a variety of general and skilled tasks, including field labor, data collection, data entry and review, simple reporting, and administrative and other duties directly related to the program under the direction of managers or team leaders. Primary responsibilities include assisting managers and team leaders with bagging, labeling, and processing of seed. Additional responsibilities may include seed collection, plant propagation, and weed abatement. Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES
Knowledge and Experience
- Prior experience working with seeds preferred but not required
- Familiarity of the local ecology preferred but not required
- Experience with the safe use of tools and equipment preferred but not required
- Experience in landscape maintenance, nursery work, habitat restoration, or equivalent field preferred.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Two (2) years of relevant work experience.
CLASSIFICATION
- Part Time (30 hours per week), Non-Exempt (Hourly) (FLSA).
- Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
- Reports to: Project Manager (or other position, depending on program structure)
- Supervises: n/a
- Primarily field-based (outdoors) in all weather conditions, including heat, direct sun, wind, rain, and cold, with some office work.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Work involves hiking on and off-trail, up and down hills, through uneven terrain.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds while hiking up and down hills on uneven terrain
