GIS Technician
The Irvine Ranch Conservancy is a non-profit, non-advocacy organization with 50 full-time, part-time, and seasonal employees and nearly 400 volunteers. Our mission is to protect, restore, and enhance the natural resources of nearly 50,000 acres of protected open space on the Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks in perpetuity, and to provide diverse opportunities for compatible public enjoyment through scientific, recreational, and educational initiatives and programs. The Conservancy has an opening for a full time GIS Technician. This position is responsible for making maps, digitizing information, field mapping, analyzing spatial data, assisting in managing a geo-database, and running models on ArcGIS. Duties will also include creating simple instruction guides as needed to assist staff with GPS and basic ArcGIS software. The primary responsibility of the position is to assist in providing core GIS services to staff and partners as needed and delegated by GIS Manager.

The successful candidate will have the following:
- Education – Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Ecology, and Natural Resource Management and two (2) years of coursework or equivalent experience with Geographic Information Systems.
- Experience
- Knowledge of GIS Software, such as ArcGIS and ArcPad; using GIS in restoration projects a plus.
- Detailed knowledge of MS Office and geo-database management.
- Experience in utilizing geoprocessing tools including Spatial Analyst, Model Builder, and Python.
- Experience with GPS field monitoring, aerial photography, and remote sensing and image ortho-rectification preferred.
- Knowledge of natural communities, biological compliance requirements, and restoration work a plus.
- Teamwork - Expected to interact with staff at all levels within the organization and act as a contributing member of project teams.
- Organization – Strong attention to detail and proven organizational skills.
- Communication Skills – Good written and oral communication skills, with experience in preparing clear, accurate reports and documents.
- Adaptability – Adapts or modifies processes or systems in response to changing circumstances. Demonstrates flexibility and teamwork with the ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Problem Solving – Takes initiative and acts independently on assigned tasks; consults with GIS Manager to resolve unusual or complex problems.
